Bulldogs Close Out Road Weekend This Sunday Against Missouri
September 24, 2016 | Soccer
STARKVILLE, Miss. – With the Southeastern Conference slate in full swing, the Mississippi State soccer team (5-5-0, 0-3-0 SEC) travels to Columbia, Mo., to cap its road weekend against Missouri (7-3-0, 2-1-0 SEC) on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
"We've had a great couple of days recovering and we're excited to face Missouri," head coach Aaron Gordon said. "Missouri has had a good start in SEC play, but we feel like we'll have a great opportunity to get a result in Columbia."
The Bulldogs are 1-3-1 in head-to-head action against the Tigers, with the last contest resulting in a 1-1 draw in 2015. MSU's only win against Mizzou came on Sept. 12, 2003 in Starkville, 1-0.
Last Time Out
Marking the first meeting between the two soccer programs since Sept. 19, 2014, MSU couldn't overcome Ole Miss as the Rebels downed the Bulldogs in Oxford, 3-0.
Scouting Missouri
The Tigers have outscored SEC foes 7-2 in 2016, including a 5-0 drubbing of Ole Miss on Sept. 9. Crucial to the Tigers' success this season has been the play of freshman Sarah Luebbert who leads the team in goals with six while adding three assists. The forward has netted a goal in her last two outings for the Tigers, adding to Mizzou's 23 scores this season which ranks fourth in the SEC.
Keys For MSU
Junior Mallory Eubanks comes into the contest as MSU's leader on the attack. The captain has six points on the season, after scoring two goals and adding two assists. All six points have come in just two contests, as Eubanks turned in a pair of three-point performances against UT Martin and Louisiana-Lafayette. The junior's pressure against Missouri will be crucial, with the Tigers ranking sixth in goals allowed this season.
Up Next
The Bulldogs return home for a Friday night contest against Alabama on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. CT. The matchup will be the first of a two game homestand, with the next home date coming on Thursday, Oct. 6 against South Carolina.
