Bulldogs Close Out Day One At Southern Intercollegiate

ATHENS, Ga. – Senior Vaughn Hunter picked up two singles wins, while sophomore Trevor Foshey added another as the two Bulldogs concluded day one for the Mississippi State men's tennis team at the Southern Intercollegiate.
After downing Erik Groner of Lander in straight sets, Hunter rallied in the nightcap to defeat Billy Rowe of Vanderbilt, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(5). Rowe was one of eight players in the Division II singles draw that was ranked as an Alpha seed.
With the win the senior advances to Saturday's round of 16 match at 10 a.m. CT where he will face Henrik Korsgaard of Virginia Tech. Hunter is now 4-1 in singles action at the Southern Intercollegiate, with three of his wins coming against SEC foes.
Foshey split his two singles matches on Friday, as the sophomore won in straight sets against Lipscomb's Alejandro Manzanares, 6-3, 6-2 before falling in a hard-fought contest to Daffra Sanon of Clemson, 7-6(4), 6-1. The opening match win for Foshey was his first singles victory at the Southern Intercollegiate as a Bulldog.
Hunter and Foshey will partner on Saturday to take on the winner of Yates/Wallert (Kentucky) and Bragusi/Millstead (Oklahoma) at 9:30 a.m. CT.

Following the Southern Intercollegiate, the Bulldogs will compete in the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Six Bulldogs will compete at the event, with pre-qualifying play beginning on Oct. 1 while the main draw runs Oct. 6-10.
