No. 18 Cross Country Kicks Off 2016 At The Memphis Twilight
September 02, 2016 | Cross Country
STARKVILLE, Miss. – It all begins tomorrow as the most anticipated season in MSU cross country history begins at the Memphis Twilight.
A year after the best season in program history, No. 18 Mississippi State enters 2016 looking to improve upon their first NCAA Championships appearance and No. 17 overall finish last year.
"We're excited to get the season started," MSU coach Houston Franks said. "We are going to be running a lot of freshmen, and this will be their first chance to get the uniform on. We are excited to see what they can do. A good portion of the team will compete tomorrow, and with Alabama and Ole Miss there it will be nice to see the team compete against conference foes."
A loaded Bulldog roster with nine returning runners from 2015 has many prognosticators believing in the Maroon and White. Earlier this week, Mississippi State was named the best team in the South Region by the USTFCCCA as well as being ranked No. 18 nationally by the publication. MSU was also picked third in the Southeastern Conference by the league's coaches. All three were the Bulldog's highest placements in the history of each poll.
The MSU women will run tomorrow night at 9:20 p.m. CT, with the men following at 10 p.m. CT.
