Bibbs' Career Day Paces MSU On Day One Of Sam Hall Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Threatening weather on the opening day of the Sam Hall Intercollegiate couldn't slow down Taylor Bibbs as his opening-round 68 led the Mississippi State men's golf team to a 36-hole total of 572 and a tie for sixth in Monday's season-opening rounds.
Bibbs, a San Diego, Calif., native, totaled four birdies to card a career-low 3-under par. He followed with a 72 in the second round sit in a tie for fifth at 2-under par 140 heading into Tuesday's final round.
"We had a lot of scores around par today, but we left several shots out there with our putting," MSU coach Clay Homan said. "We just need to be a little more assertive."
Taylor Grant joined Bibbs in the Top 20, carding a 143 to stand in a tie for 17th. Grant's second-round 70 joined Bibbs' 68 as the only under-par rounds on the MSU scorecard.
Garrett Johnson, in his collegiate debut, turned in a 144 to tie for 27th. Senior Ben Follett-Smith landed in a tie for 33rd after shooting a 145 over Monday's two rounds.
Rounding out the Bulldog scorecard, Ross Bell fired a 147 to tie for 38th heading into Tuesday's final round.
Competing as an individual, Jacob Ross opened his season with a 151 that placed him in a tie for 68th.
"When we see a few more putts go in, I'm confident we can post a low round," Homan said.
The Bulldogs enter Tuesday's final 18 seven shots behind second-place Southern Miss and 15 behind leader Louisiana-Monroe. ULM vaulted to the top of the leaderboard behind individual leader Andoni Etchenique.
MSU concludes the Sam Hall Intercollegiate at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
