MSU Tennis Teams Earn ITA Academic Awards
July 22, 2016 | Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Proving yet again Mississippi State's commitment to academics, the men's and women's tennis programs earned team and individual honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the 2015-2016 season, the ITA announced.
Both squads earned ITA All-Academic Team honors by meeting the required 3.20 grade-point average, while players had to score at least a 3.50 GPA for the 2015-2016 academic year.
The Matt Roberts-led men's squad earned a 3.37 team GPA for the spring semester, which was the highest among men's teams at MSU. The Bulldogs posted a 3.32 GPA for the 2015-2016 year, as the program earned its eighth-straight and 15th overall ITA All-Academic Team honor in school history.
Daryl Greenan's women's team recorded a 3.30 team GPA in 2015-2016, on its way to earning the ITA laurel for the seventh-consecutive season and 17th time overall.
Individually, both teams had five players each named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
Junior Rishab Agarwal, who was named a CoSIDA First Team All-American last month, leads the way with his second ITA Scholar-Athlete selection, posting a team-high 4.00 GPA in business information. The latest honor adds to Agarwal's growing academic profile that already features winning the NCAA's Elite 90 Academic Award, SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year and MSU's Newsom Academic Award, all in 2016 alone. Joining Agarwal on the men's side was Nuno Borges (bio chemistry), Trevor Foshey (kinesiology), Strahinja Rakic (undeclared) and Luka Sucevic (undeclared).
For the women's squad, senior Georgiana Patrasc (psychology) led the way, with sophomores Madison Harrison (exercise science) and Louise Ronaldson (sports studies), followed by freshmen Caroline Kelly (kinesiology) and Anastasia Rentouli (business administration) to round out the ITA Scholar-Athlete list.
Agarwal, Harrison, Patrasc and Ronaldson were selected to the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll last month, while Foshey, Kelly and Rentouli earned spots on the First-Year SEC Honor Roll.
