
Diamond Dogs Set MSU Record For Fourth Consecutive Year With SEC-Leading 21 Academic Honor Roll Selections For 2006

Senior pitcher Brooks Dunn, selected by the San Diego Padres in the 23rd round of Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft earlier this month, earned his third consecutive academic all-conference honor. The Birmingham, Ala., product was also included on the inaugural SEC Freshman Honor Roll in 2003. Dunn is one of six MSU seniors named to this year's baseball academic honor roll.
The honor roll is based on grades from the 2005 summer, 2005 fall and 2006 spring semesters The SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll will be announced by the Southeastern Conference in July.
Six SEC schools reached double figures in academic honors for baseball --- Mississippi State (21), South Carolina (14), Florida (12), Louisiana State (10), Arkansas (10) and Vanderbilt (10).
Mississippi State has placed 223 players on the Southeastern Conference's academic all-conference baseball teams since the honor's inception in 1971. Vanderbilt, with 160 honorees, is second.
Seventy-seven Mississippi State University student-athletes are among 845 student-athletes representing 11 sports and all 12 league teams that earned 2006 SEC spring academic honor roll plaudits as announced Thursday by SEC Commissioner Mike Slive.

Since the SEC first honored its scholar-athletes with Academic All-SEC designation in 1971, Mississippi State baseball players have received academic all-conference or honor roll status 223 times. Vanderbilt is second on the SEC's all-timebaseball academic honors list with 160.
