MSU's Edward Easley On Johnny Bench Award Watch List

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State sophomore catcher Edward Easley isamong 26 catchers named to the initial watch list for the 2006 ColemanCompany-Johnny Bench Award.
The Olive Branch, Miss., product led the SEC with pick-offs as a truefreshman in 2005. Easley, who drew 28 starts behind the dish and started 31games at third base, also retired eight runners attempting stolen bases.
The award, named in honor of one of professional baseball's all-time greatreceivers, is presented annually by the Greater Wichita Area SportsCommission. The list will be revised through May 1, narrowed to 10semi-finalists May 11, and further reduced to three finalists May 31. Thisyear's awards presentation banquet is scheduled June 28 in Wichita, Kans.
Two SEC players, LSU Brad Cresse (2000) and Alabama's Jeremy Brown (2002)are among the six previous winners of the Johnny Bench Award.
