Diamondbacks Call Up Former Diamond Dog Brandon Medders

Medders, a native of Tuscaloosa, Ala., was called up last weekend by theArizona Diamondbacks and made his Major League debut June 20 with an inningof scoreless relief work in a Monday night game at San Francisco. He hadcompiled a 2-1 record with seven saves and a 1.80 earned run average in 27relief appearances with Arizona¹s Class AAA Tucson club in the Pacific CoastLeague.
Arizona drafted Medders in the eighth round following his junior season atMississippi State in 2001. During his two-year MSU career the formerTuscaloosa Hillcrest High School and Shelton State (Ala.) Community Collegestandout posted a 7-4 record with a 3.21 earned run average. He notched sixwins and six saves in 2001, helping lead Mississippi State to the 2001 SECBaseball Tournament Championship in Hoover, Ala., and earning SEC TournamentAll-tournament Team honors.
Medders becomes the 37th former Mississippi State player to play or coach inMajor League Baseball and joins pitcher Matt Ginter (Detroit), first basemanRafael Palmeiro (Baltimore) and manager Buck Showalter (Texas) as MSU'sactive former players currently in the big leagues.
