STARKVILLE, Miss. -- A 4-0 showing last week, including a first-ever sweep of competition in the National Bank of Commerce Classic at Dudy Noble Field, has boosted Mississippi State up a notch to No. 18 in the latest rankings compiled by Tucson-based Collegiate Baseball.
The Texas Loghorns continue to head up the Collegiate Baseball national rankings and remained second behind Tulane in the poll conducted by Baseball America.
Off to a 6-0 start, the Diamond Dogs close out their seson-longest eight-game home stand with a pair of midweek games. State hosts Louisiana Tech (5-12) Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the 49th renewal of the baseball rivalry, with junior lefty Brooks Dunn (1-0, 0.00) matched with Tech senior righthander Mitch Tucker (0-2, 5.29).
Bulldog freshman John Lalor of Germantown, Tenn., is scheduled to make his mound debut in Wednesday's 4 p.m. contest with Jackson State (4-8).
MSU travels to Tucson, Ariz., Mar. 11-13 for a three-game weekend series against Arizona (12-5). The Wildcats, ranked 12th by Baseball America, handed Texas its first loss of the season during a closely-contested three-game last weekend in Tucson.
