Thunderstorm Forces Suspension Of MSU-UNO Series Opener

STARKVILLE, Miss. - A severe thunderstorm brought heavy rainfall to DudyNoble Field Tuesday night and a suspension of play in the MississippiState-New Orleans baseball game after three innings of play. <p>The game will be resumed Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. (CST) in the top of thefourth inning with the score tied at 1-1. Wednesday's scheduled 4 p.m.MSU-UNO game will follow approximately 25 minutes later.<p>UNO's Brandon Bowser drew a walk off MSU starter Brooks Dunn, advanced tothird on a single by Mike Constantino, and plated the game's first run onAlex Webster's infield groundout.<p>Two innings later Bulldog center fielder Joseph Hunter doubled and racedhome with the tying run Brad Jones' single. Hunter's hit extended hiscareer-best and team-leading hitting streak to 13 games.<p>Freshman John Lalor is expected to replace Dunn on the mound when playresumes Wednesday afternoon. UNO starter Michael Jones of nearby McCool,Miss., was charged with a run on three hits. Dunn gave up a run on two hitsduring his three-inning mound stint.<p>For MSU it was a near repeat of last Tuesday's series opener against theUniversity of Memphis. That game was suspended after five innings, with theBulldogs completing an 11-8 win the following day.<p>The 17th-ranked Bulldogs (13-3, 2-1 SEC) resume SEC competition and begin anine-game road run this weekend in Fayetteville, Ark., with a three-game setagainst the fifth-ranked Razorbacks (19-2, 2-1 SEC). Arkansas defeatedCentenary 10-1 Tuesday night in Shreveport, La.
