May 25, 2016 | Baseball
Junior right-hander Alan Johnson (2-1, 5.63), one of four Alabama players on MSU's 25-man travel roster, will start for the Bulldogs while Auburn will counter with freshman lefty Mike Feleix (4-2, 4.14).
The Bulldogs advanced their non-conference record to 18-5 with a pair of midweek wins over the University of Memphis (10 -2, 7-2) at Dudy Noble Field. Wednesday's game came to an early end with a power outage darkened Dudy Noble Field and much of the MSU campus in the top of the sixth inning. In the game MSU's hitting leaders, freshman second baseman Jeffrey Rea (.358) and sophomore right fielder Brad Corley (.357) extended career-best hitting streaks to 12 and 13 games respectively.
Corley, honored March 12 as the SEC Player of the Week after an impressive five-home run series at Kentucky, hit his 12th and 13th home runs of the year in Tuesday's win over Memphis. He enters the weekend tied with Georgia's Josh Morris for the SEC lead in roundtrippers.
Auburn has won five of its last seven games and claimed a pair of wins in both of its last two SEC series (at Mississippi and at Alabama). In their lone midweek game, the Tigers blanked South Alabama 10-0 in a game shortened to eight innings.
The weekend series pits the Bulldogs against their seventh nationally-ranked opponent. MSU is 6-10 against No. 19 Tennessee (1-2), No. 30 Birmingham-Southern (0-1), No. 1 LSU (1-2), No. 11 Southern Miss (2-0), No. 4 & No. 7 Mississippi (1-3), and No. 19 Florida (1-2).
All three games at Auburn will be broadcast on the statewide MSU Baseball Radio Network while Sunday's 1:30 p.m. series finale will be televised regionally on Comcast cable systems.
