The pair of matches mark the third and fourth matches for head coach Tracy Lane's Lady Dogs (4-11, 0-6) against top-10 foes. UT (14-5, 5-1) enters Friday's noon matchup with the Lady Dogs fresh off a loss to 36th-ranked Florida International that snapped the Lady Vols' five-match win streak.
Tennessee holds a 20-3 lead in the series, as the Lady Vols have won the last 16 meetings. State's last win over UT came during the 1987 campaign. The Lady Vols posted a pair of wins last season over MSU, defeating the Dogs 5-2 in Knoxville and 4-0 in the second round of the SEC Tournament in Starkville.
State played one of its best conference matches of the spring in its last outing at Auburn on Mar. 17. The Lady Bulldogs dropped a 6-1 decision in which four of the six singles matches went the full three sets. State dropped the first set in three of those outings, but rallied back to take the second and force the deciding set.
Freshman Magdolna Rekasi led the Lady Dogs in singles action, as she claimed State's lone point of the match with a 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 win over Carolina Maurer for her first career victory at the No. 3 position.
State concludes the four-match road trip Sunday with an Easter Day matchup with Georgia in Athens. UGA enters this weekend's play 15-1, 6-0 in the SEC and a game behind top-ranked Florida in the conference's Eastern Division.
