Lady Dogs Host Second-Ranked Vandy Friday

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The No. 67 Mississippi State women's tennis team returns to action Friday, taking on second-ranked Vanderbilt in a 2:30 p.m. dual match at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
State enters Friday's match with a 4-7 overall mark and an 0-2 SEC record after the first weekend of conference play.
The Lady Bulldogs dropped a pair of 5-1 decisions in Starkville last weekend. The Lady Bulldogs picked up a big win at No. 1 from Carole Soubis in the 5-1 setback to South Carolina, the No. 23 team in the country this week. The Lady Bulldogs also fell to fifth-ranked Florida, picking up its lone win at the No. 6 position with Justyna Switala.
Vanderbilt, the 2001 NCAA runner-up, has claimed a 15-2 record this season. The Commodores are 1-1 in conference play after defeating Tennessee Sunday and dropping a 4-3 loss to top-ranked Georgia Friday.
VU has taken seven of the 14 matches between the two squads, including a victory on the MSU campus last season. Vandy has claimed the last 10 matches in the series, with State's last win coming during the 1991 campaign.
