Threat of Rain Moves Start to 1:30 p.m.
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The 65th-ranked Mississippi State women's tennis team opens the 2002 SEC slate Friday, hosting 25th-ranked South Carolina at 1:30 p.m. at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre on the MSU campus.
The match was originally scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. start, but the threat of inclement weather pushed the match to a 1:30 p.m. start.
Head coach Tracy Lane's Lady Bulldog netters enter the match with a 4-5 mark after dropping the first two matches of a six-match homestand. State looks to rebound after a disheartening 7-0 loss to then-No. 74 Middle Tennessee last Saturday.
Freshman Magdolna Rekasi has paced MSU so far this season in both singles and doubles. The Budapest, Hungary, native has staked a 3-1 mark out of the gate at the No. 4 position. She looks to rebound from having a two-match win streak snapped in her last outing against Middle Tennessee. Rekasi has also played solid doubles with sophomore Camila Sagae. The duo claimed State's lone victory against the Lady Raiders last Saturday, and they have won three of their last four matches at the No. 2 position.
South Carolina opens a two-match swing through the Magnolia State with a 6-1 record. The Gamecocks have posted wins in their last two matches. The squad claimed a 4-2 win over 42nd-ranked Harvard and most recently a 7-0 blanking of N.C. State.
Head coach Arlo Elkins' squad has been paced by senior Jennifer Radman in singles. Radman has recorded an impressive 5-1 mark during the spring, including a 4-0 record at the No. 2 position. The Gamecocks are equally as impressive in doubles, as USC has garnered a 20-2 mark in dual-match play.
