STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Mississippi State's 50th-ranked women's tennis team continues a six-match homestand this weekend, hosting 74th-rated Middle Tennessee in a 1 p.m. dual match at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre on the MSU campus.
The Lady Bulldogs (4-4) look to rebound from their first home loss of the season, a 5-2 setback last Sunday to South Alabama.
The Lady Bulldogs put themselves in contention to knock off the then-No. 37 Lady Jaguars after Carole Soubis and Magdolna Rekasi won their matches at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively. Rekasi has played solidly for the Lady Dogs at the No. 4 position, posting a perfect 3-0 mark and two straight wins at that spot.
State will look to avenge having a two-match win streak in doubles snapped last Sunday. Prior to dropping the doubles to USA, the Lady Bulldogs had captured the first point of the match in their last two contests.
The Lady Raiders have been paced this season by sophomore Manon Kruse. Playing strictly the No. 1 spot, Kruse, who is ranked 29th nationally, has posted a team-leading 6-2 dual-match record and a 15-4 overall mark.
The doubles tandem of Kruse and Stacy Varnell have carried MTSU so far this season. The duo has notched an 8-2 record in the spring and a 20-4 overall mark so far this season.
Admission to all of MSU's home matches is free. Those unable to attend can follow all the action via the following link.
