Women?s Track & Field Stays At No. 11 In USTFCCCA Rankings

STARKVILLE, Miss. – For the third-consecutive week, the Mississippi State women's track and field team stays at No. 11 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association rankings.
“I'm happy to see we've maintained a Top 15 ranking,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “We have a big weekend coming up and we hope to have as many athletes improve in their events. This women's team is capable of lots of success.”
Still holding on to the No. 1 spot in the 1500m run, Marta Freitas continues to lead the nation for the third week. Freitas recorded a time of 4:12.91 earlier this season at the Florida Relays to grasp the coveted spot. Not far behind Freitas is Ffion Price in the No. 16 ranking with a time of 4:17.94.
Freitas is also in the Top 10 of the country in the 800m run. She's No. 10 with a time of 2:04.16, while teammate Ffion Price lands at No. 36 with a time of 2:06.89.
Also at the top of the individual rankings is Erica Bougard landing in the Top 10 in two events. Bougard had the nation's second-best clearance of 6-02 in the high jump at the Florida Relays and the eighth-best time of 13.09 in the 100m hurdles at the Battle of the Bayou. The Byhalia, Miss., native also ranks 17th in the country in the long jump after a leap of 20-05.75.
Cornelia Griesche is No. 9 in the country in the 3000m steeplechase after posting a time of 10:02.56 at the Florida Relays, while freshman Antonia Hehr lands at No. 28 in the event with a time of 10:21.07.
Clocking a time of 52.74 at the Florida Relays in the 400m dash, Shayla Luckett is 23rd in the nation in the event. Kimari Martin is in the 48th spot with a time of 53.70. Luckett and Martin's times are the third and fifth-best in MSU history in the event.
The women's team will split action this weekend between the LSU Alumni Gold meet and the Virginia Challenge with hopes of improving their rankings.
