Baik Paces Bulldogs On Day Two Of Darius Rucker Intercollegiate
March 05, 2016 | Women's Golf
Hilton Head, S.C. – Ji Eun Baik started strong and never looked back as she paced the Mississippi State women's golf team to a 14th-place finish with a 300 total in the second round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.
Baik began her day by earning her first par of the round on the 10th hole. She then went on to tab a bogey, followed by nine more pars before eventually shooting her two birdies of the day on holes 3 and 5.
“I played with more confidence today. I started out slow, but managed well and played through it,” Baik said. “I was determined to make some birdies today, and I was able to do that on the front nine and finished strong.''
The Bulldogs finished two strokes ahead of 27th-ranked Furman, as well as only finishing seven strokes behind the nation's No.1 team, Southern Cal.
"It was a very tough day for us today. The weather was perfect, confidence and hole locations were the challenge," MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. "We still managed to move ahead of some really good teams. I look for Sunday's round to be better."
Jessica Peng didn't get out to the start she hoped for but bounced back after making the turn to the front nine. The Bulldog junior fired four-straight pars and earned a team-best three birdies.
Izel Pieters and Bianca Theron fired a 77 and 78 respectively, while Katie Holt notched an 80 for the day.
The Bulldogs will conclude play in Hilton Head with the final round on Sunday. State will be paired with Wake Forest and LSU, teeing off at 7:45 a.m. CT.
