Baik Ends Round One In Second Place
March 20, 2016 | Women's Golf
Baton Rouge, La. – After a stellar performance from Ji Eun Baik, the Mississippi State women's golf team ended day one of the LSU Tiger Classic tied for sixth with a 307 total.
The Bulldogs are only two strokes behind of fourth place.
“Today was one of the most challenging rounds of golf we have ever played. Our squad played exceptionally well for 14 holes, but struggled on the last few,'' MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said.
''We managed ourselves so well, especially with the added challenge of heavy wind to the already very difficult course. I look forward to the next two rounds.''
Baik paced the Bulldogs at the University Club, with two birdies on the front and two bogeys on the back. Her even par performance was good enough to place her tied for 2nd individually.
“I tried to stay patient the entire round, because the wind was picking up as I made my turn,” Baik said. “I started the round well and made sure to keep that pace all day by having fun and enjoying the day.”
Jessica Peng and Bianca Theron tied each other with 78's, while Izel Pieters finished one stroke back at 79.
Senior Logan Chaney tallied an 83 on the day playing as an individual, while Katie Holt totaled an 84.
MSU is back in action for the second round of the LSU Tiger Classic on Monday.
