
Women?s DMR Runs Into Record Book To Finish First

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Running their way into the school record book, Marta Freitas, Kaelin Kersh, Ffion Price, and Antonia Hehr posted the fifth-best time in Mississippi State history in the distance medley relay on Saturday.
The foursome ran a time of 11:27.97, which is now the facility record at the Sam Bailey Track Stadium, to bring home a first-place finish in the event. Cornelia Griesche, Zaria Tillman, Madison Milhoan and Mia Meydrich made up team B for MSU in the distance medley relay that finished second in the event with a time of 11:39.04.
“I thought today was a good way to start off our outdoor season,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “We saw some strong performances out there, but we also saw where we can improve."
Caden Foos, Dustin James II, Patrick Monaghan and Andrew Monaghan ran a time of 10:02.76 in the men's distance medley relay to finish second.
Earning a first-place victory in the field, Carl Pittman cleared 15-01 in the pole vault.
Kicking off her final season with the Bulldogs, Erica Bougard claimed first collegiately in the high jump. She cleared 5-07 in the event. Finishing seventh in the event was Logan Boss after clearing 5-05. On the men's side, Seth Peace finished second in the high jump after clearing 6-08.75.
Making his outdoor debut, freshman Vince Castillo posted a time of 53.28 in the 400m hurdles to place second. He finished first collegiately in his heat, third overall. Alongside Castillo in the event was James II, who recorded a personal-best time of 54.70 to finish ninth.
Both 4x100m Relay teams brought home a Top 5 finish. The women's team comprised of Bougard, Shayla Luckett, Ste'yce McNeil and Tiffany Flynn earned second with a time of 46.17. Finishing fourth, the men's team made up of Lawrence Crawford, Rodrigo Rocha, Charles Taylor and Philip Smith ran a time of 40.48.
The men's 4x400m relay team ended the meet on the track with a second-place finish. Rasheed Tatham, Philip Smith, Juston Waters and Vince Castillo made up the relay and recorded a time of 3:09.38.
In his first competition of the year, Curtis Thompson threw 229-05 in the javelin to compete in the event finals and finish fourth. Throwing a personal-best, junior Haley Reynolds had a toss of 146-07 in the discus to earn a ninth-place finish. Reynolds went on to place 10th in the shot put with a toss of 43-10.75.
Opening the outdoor season with a personal-best, Willie Reed had a leap of 23-06.25 to clinch sixth in the long jump. Finishing eighth in the event was A.J. Ward with a jump of 23-04.
From Tuscaloosa, the Bulldogs will move on to the Florida State Relays on March 25-26.
