STARKVILLE, Miss. – For the third year in a row, the Mississippi State men's and women's cross country teams were named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association Division I All-Academic Team list.
The women's team saw one of the most successful seasons in school history after finishing 17th at its first-ever NCAA Championships appearance. Through the success, the team was able to maintain a 3.38 GPA. On the men's side, the team was not far behind with an overall 3.31 GPA.
“I'm always proud of these athletes for their academic achievements,” MSU coach Houston Franks. “Everyone on these teams put in a lot of work on and off the course, which is very important. They deserve this recognition.”
Along with the team honors, three Bulldogs earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Individuals list, including Cornelia Griesche, Mia Meydrich and Rhianwedd Price.
Griesche was named to the list for the second year in a row. Griesche, an economics major, has made the MSU President's List every semester at MSU. At the championships, Griesche was MSU's third finisher in 125th place clocking a time of 21:01.10.
Making her third consecutive appearance on the list was Price, who finished second for MSU and 50th overall at the NCAA Championships after running a time of 20:32.30 helping earn the Bulldogs overall 17th finish. Price is a junior at MSU majoring in animal dairy science.
Also appearing on the individuals list was sophomore Meydrich, making her first appearance. Meydrich was a constant Top 5 finisher for the Bulldogs during the 2015 season. The communication major finished 162nd at the championships with a time of 21:16.20 finishing fifth for MSU.
Griesche, Meydrich and Price were all three named to the SEC 2015 Fall honor roll, along with teammates Mathew Dunn, Andrew Monaghan, Patrick Monaghan, Madison Milhoan, Carly Terp and Lisa Ziegler.
Currently, the dual sport athletes are competing for the MSU track and field teams preparing for post season. Next up for the women's team will be the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville on Feb. 26-27.
