October 08, 2016 | Soccer
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Facing its second-straight ranked opponent, the Mississippi State Bulldogs (6-7-0, 1-5-0 SEC) travel to 18th-ranked Auburn (9-4-0, 5-1-0 SEC) on Sunday to cap this weekend's play in the Southeastern Conference.
The matchup will be broadcast on SEC Network +, with kickoff set for 2 p.m. CT from the Auburn Soccer Complex.
"In the SEC you never get an easy game, every team is good from top to bottom," head coach Aaron Gordon said. "We're facing another ranked opponent, but we see this as another great opportunity to get points. We finished just short on Thursday and we're ready to get back out on the field tomorrow."
Last Time Out
The Bulldogs went toe-to-toe with No. 4 South Carolina on Thursday night, but the Gamecocks broke through in the 79th minute to escape Starkville with the 1-0 win. The win for USC continued its 12-game winning streak.
Scouting Auburn
The Tigers have won five out of their last six games as Auburn has complied a 9-4-0 record on the year. Auburn has outscored opponents 13-5 during the six game stretch, scoring two or more goals four times. Leading the Tiger attack is junior Kristen Dodson, who has earned eight goals and six assists. The forward ranks fourth and fifth in the SEC in both categories.
Keys For MSU
Junior Tanya de Souza surpassed her career-high for saves in a season last time out, as the goalkeeper now has 65 saves on the year. De Souza and the Bulldog backline will be tasked with slowing down a recently hot Tiger attack that has scored 10 goals in SEC games alone.
