October 09, 2016 | Soccer
AUBURN, Ala. – Mississippi State (6-8-0, 1-6-0 SEC) fell to 18th-ranked Auburn (10-4-0, 6-1-0) on the road, as the host Tigers earned the 3-0 victory on Sunday afternoon to cap the weekend for the Bulldogs.
The Tigers used their early chances in the first half to cash in on an early goal, as Ellie Leek scored on the cross from Brooke Ramiser in the 27th minute. Ramsier wasn't fished however for the Tigers as she hooked in a corner kick before the half to give Auburn the 2-0 lead before the break.
In the second half MSU would come out with more of an attacking mindset, as the Bulldogs recorded their first shot attempt of the game. With momentum beginning to shift, the Tigers quickly regained the advantage as Kristen Dodson headed in Auburn's third goal of the afternoon to seal the win for the Tigers at home.
"Tip your hat to Auburn, they gave a great effort and won today," head coach Aaron Gordon said. "Auburn is one of the best team's in our conference and they showed us why today. We have to put this game behind us and focus on LSU this Friday."
Improved Second Half
The Bulldogs were outshot by 14 attempts in the first half, but held Auburn to only six shots in the second half. MSU recorded four shots against the Tiger defense in the final 45 minutes as the Bulldogs showed much improved effort in the second half.
