Bulldog Sara Lizariturry Claims Singles Title At Roberta Alison Fall Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – To conclude the 2016 fall slate, the Mississippi State women's tennis team went a combined 12-6 to close out the Roberta Alison Fall Classic, with one Bulldog claiming the singles title in her respective draw.
MSU's newcomer Sara Lizariturry defeated Tulane's Christina Sisti 6-4, 7-5 to claim the singles title in the Patti Farmer Draw Saturday. In the Patricia Morgan Draw, State's Caroline Kelly defeated Mercer's Anna Sovic in straight sets 6-3, 7-5 to claim the consolation title of that bracket.
In the finals of the Myke Loomis Draw, MSU's 75th-ranked Anastasia Rentouli fell to Auburn's Georgina Axon 6-1, 6-1. Bulldog Lisa Marie Rioux fell in the third place match to Memphis' Anki Wind in a tough three-setter 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the Selia Mathew Draw.
MSU started the day with the Bulldog pair of Lizariturry and Rioux advancing to the finals after defeating DePaul's Florence Abbot and Patricia Lancranjan in the semifinals 8-2. However, the MSU pair fell to Georgia Tech's Nami Otsuka and Nadia Gizdova 8-5 in the finals of the Nancy Harris Doubles Draw.
In the Lori Smith Doubles Draw, State's duo of Kelly and Rentouli fell in the semifinals to Tulane's Sade Atkinson and Sofia Kurtz 8-1. In the third place match, the Bulldog duo received a walkover after Ole Miss' Brooke Stevens and Allie Sanford withdrew.
