Bulldogs Go 8-2 On Day One At Roberta Alison Fall Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – With the first day completed, the Mississippi State women's tennis team went a combined 8-2 at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic, with two Bulldogs moving into the finals of their respective singles draws and two State doubles teams advancing to the semifinals.
In singles action, MSU had two players advance to the finals of their draws in Sara Lizariturry and Anastasia Rentouli In the Patti Farmer Draw, Lizariturry posted a come-from-behind win against Kansas' Summer Collins 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-2 and a straight-set victory over Memphis' Gabrielle Paul 6-3, 6-3. She will match up with Tulane's Christina Sisti in Saturday's title match. In the Myke Loomis Draw, State's 75th-ranked Rentouli defeated Clemson's Constanza Gorches 6-2, 6-3 and DePaul's Patricia Lancranjan 6-1, 1-1, ret. On Saturday, the Bulldog sophomore will face Auburn's Georgina Axon for the title of that draw.
In the Selia Mathew Draw, newcomer Lisa Marie Rioux split her matches defeating Kansas' Tanya Nikolaeva in the opening round and then falling in a tough three-setter to DePaul's 66th-ranked Yulia Shupenia 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the semifinals. She will face Memphis' Anki Wind in the third place match of her bracket on Saturday. MSU's Caroline Kelly split her matches in the Patricia Morgan Draw, falling to Troy's Hannah Seizer 6-0, 6-3, but bouncing back to down Samford's Grace Jennings 7-6(4), 7-5 to advance to the consolation finals, where she will face Mercer's Anna Sovic.
MSU started the day with both of its doubles pairs advancing to the semifinals in their respective draws. In the Nancy Harris Doubles Draw, Lizariturry and Rioux outlasted UAB's Marlene Herrmann and Pardis Kianoush 8-7(1). On Saturday, they will face DePaul's Florence Abbott and Patricia Lancranjan in the semifinals.
In the Lori Smith Doubles Draw, State's duo of Kelly and Rentouli ousted Mercer's Katie Sidor and Anna Sovic 8-5. The Bulldog pair will face Tulane's Sade Atkinson and Sofia Kurtz on Saturday.
