STARKVILLE, Miss. – Sophomore Niclas Braun and senior Mate Cutura compete in the USTA Birmingham Futures on Friday as the Bulldogs kick off the final leg of the fall slate for the Mississippi State men's tennis team.
The tournament, which begins on Oct. 28 and lasts through Nov. 6, will be held at the Highland Park Tennis Center in Birmingham, Ala. The pair of Bulldogs will begin action in the qualifying draw of the Birmingham Futures.
Braun has earned two wins so far this fall, after competing in the ITA All-American Championships and the ITA Southern Regional Championships in the early part of October.
Senior and 26th-ranked Cutura has also earned two wins in singles play, after taking two matches at the ITA Southern Regional. This is the first fall Cutura has been able to compete in since the 2014 due to an injury suffered last fall.
The Birmingham Futures will feature a mixture of collegiate and professional tennis players, as the tournament begins with a 128 player qualifying draw that leads into a 32 player singles main draw. In doubles action the futures will only hold a 16-team main draw beginning on Nov. 1.
