Bulldogs Go Undefeated On Day One Of Birmingham Futures

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On the first day of action from the Highland Park Tennis Center, Mississippi State's Mate Cutura and Niclas Braun each earned a straight-set win against singles foes on Friday to cap off a successful day at the USTA Birmingham Futures.
The event began with sophomore Braun downing Rana-Roop Singh Bhullar of Norway, 6-3, 6-2. The win moves Braun into the second round of qualifying play on Saturday.
In the afternoon session, senior and 26th-ranked Cutura also moved on to Saturday's next round as he won with ease against USA's Kalman Boyd, 6-1, 6-3. Boyd spent last season playing with Southern California.
The Birmingham Futures features a mixture of collegiate and professional tennis players, as the tournament begins with a 128 player qualifying draw that leads into a 32 player singles main draw beginning on Nov. 1
