One and a half seasons, the amount of time it took senior Jasmine Lee to fulfill her dream of becoming an ITA All-American. The Kaohsiung, Taiwan native transferred from Chinese Cultural University to Mississippi State in the spring of 2015 where she posted an impressive 17-8 record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship just barely missing out on her dream.
Â
In her junior year she was able to show her full potential performing in both the fall and spring slates. She finished the 2015-16 season with a combined 32-12 singles record, with 23 against ranked opponents. She was named a 9-16 seed for the NCAA Singles Championship automatically earning the accolade of ITA All-American.
Â
"Becoming an All-American was a great honor for me and a goal I set for myself last year," Lee said. "I was overjoyed to accomplish this feat my junior year."
Â
Lee ended her stellar junior season by becoming the first MSU women's singles player ever to advance to the NCAA Singles quarterfinals and the first MSU men's or women's player to do so since Bulldog Thomas Dupre in 1998. The two-time, First Team All-SEC selection joins 1989 NCAA Doubles Champions Jackie Holden and Claire Pollard as the only All-Americans in MSU women's tennis history.
Â
Now Lee prepares to enter her senior year, which has started off on a high note after she claimed the singles crown in the top flight of the Furman Invite back on Sept. 25.
Â
"My goal for this year is to compete and play at a high level each and every time I step onto the court and encourage my teammates to do the same," Lee said. "If we do this, everything else will take care of itself."
Â
With her senior year comes great responsibility for not only fulfilling her dreams on the court but also when it comes to leading the team.
Â
"As a senior, I just hope that I can be a great teammate," Lee said. "We have a great group of girls and I look forward to finishing my collegiate career with them next to me. It is going to be both fun and exciting this year."
