Bulldogs Finish Third In Oklahoma
September 21, 2015 | Women's Golf
Norman, Okla. – After inclement weather prohibited play of the second round of the Schooner Fall Classic, the Mississippi State women's golf team came roaring back in Monday's final round shooting a 282 to place third.
The team finished with a 565 two-day total, the third best 36-hole total in MSU golf history.
“I am so incredibly proud of these ladies. They worked so hard out there. They rose to the occasion and fired 11 birdies on the back nine to secure third place,'' MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “Logan Chaney and Jessica Peng both played awesome, carding two under. Elsa Moberly and Bianca Theron also played outstanding in only their second tournament.”
Junior Jessica Peng led the way for the squad as she and Logan Chaney both had rounds in the 60's Monday with 69s. Peng finished tied for sixth place overall.
Finishing tied for 13 was junior Ji Eun Baik, who had a slow start on Monday's round but made up for it in the back nine by shooting one-under par. Baik finished the day with a 75.
Chaney had a career-low day firing a 69 after making two birdies in a row on the back nine. She shaved off three strokes from her first round total, finishing tied for 30.
Freshman Elsa Moberly and Bianca Theron both finished tied for 33 and shot 146, having identical scores in both rounds.
Playing as an individual was junior Izel Pieters, who fired even par on both days finishing at 142 and a tied for 16th place.
The Bulldogs are back in action again at the Jim West Challenge on Oct. 4-6.
