September 19, 2015 | Women's Golf
Norman, Okla. – Ji Eun Baik didn't wait to save her best for last. Instead, the junior standout opened play at the Schooner Fall Classic Saturday on fire with a career-low 66 to propel Mississippi State into second place after one round.
The Bulldogs, who won this event last year, posted a 283, the sixth-best round in school history. They enter Sunday's second round just seven shots behind Oklahoma State for the lead.
“We had great leadership from our two juniors, Ji Eun (Baik) and Jessica (Peng), as well as solid rounds from our other three players, which makes our 1-under par round even better,” MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “In a tournament, the four and five spots have to have strong rounds for a team to win.”
Baik's 5-under performance has her in third place overall. As well as having the lowest scorecard on the team, she posted the most birdies on the day as well with six.
Following Baik was teammate Jessica Peng, who posted a 2-under par round Saturday.
Freshmen Elsa Moberly and Bianca Theron both had their best rounds of colligate golf thus far, posting 74's on the day and finishing tied for 29th.
Logan Chaney carded a 76 to place 40th.
Competing as an individual was Junior Izel Pieters who had the third best scorecard of the Bulldogs with a 71.
