September 14, 2015 | Women's Golf
Charleston, S.C. – After a slow start in Sunday's opening round of the Cougar Classic, the Mississippi State women's golf team fought back Monday to shave off seven strokes en route to posting a 295 to remain at 14th place.
Pacing the Bulldogs were juniors Ji Eun Baik and All-American Jessica Peng, as they tied each other with a 71.
“We learned a lot today, and our two juniors, Peng and Baik, led the charge. They both shot well and motivated the others to do the same,” MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said.
Baik led the charge with four birdies and finished tied for 14th place overall. Peng was not far behind with three birdies, as well as shaving off four strokes. Peng's 71 was also good enough to tie for 18th place overall.
Elsa Moberly fired a 77 Monday, and is 9-over for the tournament.
Senior Logan Chaney shot an 81 on the day after collecting two birdies.
After a slow start, Bianca Theron showed what she was made of and came roaring back to shave three strokes off from Sunday's scorecard, posting 76 on the day.
“Bianca had a rough start (Monday), but fought back and played 13 holes at 1-over-par to finish strong,” Brown-Lemm said. “This team is still young, but we saw some great things happen today, as well as some good growth.”
The Bulldogs are back in action for the final round of the Cougar Classic Tuesday at 8 a.m. CT.
