Day Two of Southern Intercollegiate In The Books For Men?s Tennis

ATHENS, Ga. – Junior Vaughn Hunter picked up another singles win on Saturday, as the Mississippi State men's tennis team completed the second day of action at the Southern Intercollegiate.
“Today we got a lot of good work in for our three guys,” head coach Matt Roberts said. “We came to this event looking to grow our newcomers and give them a taste of major collegiate tennis, and I think they have gotten just that.”
Hunter, who was competing in the opening round of the consolation bracket, defeated Will Albanese of Arkansas, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-2.
Freshman Lucas Sanchez was also playing in the consolation bracket on Saturday, as the Brazilian right-hander downed Franco Echenique of Barry in two sets, 6-4, 6-2. Sanchez faces Marco Almorin of Colorado State in the second round consolations at 8 a.m. CT.
Going to the limit was freshman Trevor Foshey, who pushed Alex Theiler of Saint Leo to three sets but ultimately fell 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (6).
“I am especially proud of Trevor and how much he has improved over just one day,” Roberts said. “He pushed a guy who had professional experience to the limit and I was just so impressed with him. I think going forward we will know exactly what we need to improve on.”
