September 11, 2015 | Men's Tennis
ATHENS, Ga. – Junior Vaughn Hunter earned his first singles win as a Bulldog, after the Mississippi State men's tennis team wrapped up day one of the Southern Intercollegiate.
“I am happy that our guys got some good action in today and overall I think it was a good day,” head coach Matt Roberts said. “I had fun watching Vaughn, Lucas and Trevor begin their Bulldog careers and this weekend should be a good indicator of what things we need to work on with them.”
Hunter defeated Nicolas Guillon of Mercer, 0-6, 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the round of 32, before losing to top-seeded Wayne Montgomery of Georgia 6-2, 6-4.
Newcomer Trevor Foshey fell in the opening round to Stetson's Loic Blanco in a tightly-contested match, 7-6, 7-6. On Saturday, Foshey will take on Alex Theiler of Saint Leo at 1 p.m. CT in the first division singles consolation.
Freshman Lucas Sanchez received a bye into the round of 32, but fell to Egor Panyushkin of Saint Leo 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles action, the duo of Hunter and Foshey were defeated by Florida Atlantic's Romain Boudaroua and Andrei Morin-Kougoucheff, 8-6.
