STARKVILLE, Miss. – Building on an already stellar recruiting class, Mississippi State women's tennis coach Daryl Greenan announced the addition of two more newcomers to the Bulldog family on Friday.
Sophomore transfer Kristina Vozniak and freshman Caroline Kelly join the Maroon and White, bolstering an already stacked Bulldog roster to eight total players for the 2015-16 season. The roster is now comprised of two freshmen, four sophomores, one junior and one senior.
“I am extremely excited about this recruiting class,” Greenan said. “Kristina and Caroline round out a group of four new players who I am confident will play an instrumental role in our success. They each possess a passion and commitment that is becoming more and more a part of the culture of our program.”
Vozniak comes to Starkville after spending her freshman season with the Stony Brook Seawolves of the America East Conference. Vozniak went 20-8 overall and 11-4 in dual match play while playing only at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in the singles order. The sophomore was 5-1 at the top spot and 6-3 at the second spot in the lineup.
In doubles play, Vozniak was also impressive, putting together a 19-6 overall record and a 10-1 showing in dual match contests. Vozniak's greatest success came with teammate Elizabeth Tsvetkov as the duo went 8-0 while playing at the two and three positions.
Vozniak is also no stranger to the postseason, as she helped Stony Brook earn its fourth-straight America East title and NCAA Championship appearance.
A TennisRecruiting.net three-star athlete from Newtown, Conn., Caroline Kelly will don the Maroon and White after an impressive high school career.
Kelly holds a 23-15 overall record, including a 12-3 showing against fellow three-star recruits and four victories against four and five-star signees. Kelly will come to State ranked No. 177 in the TennisRecruiting.net rankings and No. 113 in the TennisRPI. According to the Babolat Recruiting Lists, Kelly is the sixth-best player in the state of Connecticut and the ninth-best in the New England region.
Kelly has been an instrumental part in helping Starr's Mill High School become one of the top 5-A tennis programs in the state of Connecticut. Most recently, the Panthers finished runner up for the state title. In 2014, Kelly was one of the three singles victories to help Starr's Mill capture its first state title since 2007 and finishing as the runner up in 2013.
“Kristina brings a year of college experience and came to us because she wants to improve and test herself at the highest level of college tennis,” Greenan said. “Caroline will be one of two freshmen on our team this year and is committed to taking her game to the next level.
“They both have great potential and I cannot wait to work with them and to watch their progress as we train and compete for the Maroon and White.”
