Weather Suspends MSU Elimination Game
May 17, 2015 | Softball
LAFAYETTE, La. – A combination of lightning and rain caused an elimination game between Mississippi State and Weber State to be suspended on Saturday at Lamson Park.
With the Bulldogs leading 1-0 and junior Kayla Winkfield at the plate with one out in the bottom of the fourth in the NCAA Tournament's Lafayette Regional, a lightning delay prompted both teams to clear the field.
For the second time in as many days, sophomore Caroline Seitz went yard for a home run, this time a solo shot in the first to put MSU on top 1-0. That was all the scoring the game saw until inclement weather caused a delay of nearly two hours before the game was officially suspended.
Sophomore Alexis Silkwood got the start in the circle for State and had notched three strikeouts through her first four innings in the circle.
The game will resume on Sunday at noon CT with the loser to be eliminated from the NCAA Tournament, while the winner will take on No. 18 Baylor in another elimination game that will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the game between MSU and Weber State.
The games will air on ESPN3, which can be seen exclusively through WatchESPN.com and the Watch ESPN app. Pam Ward and Cheri Kempf will call the entire regional, while the voice of Bulldog Softball, Anthony Craven also have the call on HailStatePLUS.
