Bulldogs Tied For 12th Heading Into Final Round At Tiger Invitational
March 09, 2015 | Men's Golf
OPELIKA, Ala – After entering the day in a tie for 12th, the Mississippi State men's golf team improved eight shots to card a 297 despite staying in the 12th position.
“We played a touch better today but not well enough to move up,” MSU coach Clay Homan said. “It's a matter of having all five guys playing more consistently for 18 holes, not just 14 or 15 holes.”
Round one's team leader Tim Walker shot a second round four-over-par 76, to place him in a tie for 38th.
Freshman Taylor Grant finished the second round with a 77 and enters the third round in a tie for 46th.
Along with Grant at T46, Jackson Dick turned in the only MSU under-par scorecard of the day at 70, improving 11 shots on his first round.
Junior Ben Wood improved six shots to shoot a second round 74, tying him for 61st.
Rounding the Bulldog scorecard, Johnny Newnham shot a second round 79 leaving him in a tie for 73rd.
Competing as an Individual, Taylor Bibbs shot an 82 placing him in a tie for 78th heading into Tuesday's final round.
“Jackson rebounded with a nice round today, birdieing three of his final six holes for a 70,” Homan said. “Ben played much better, but had a costly last hole that kept him from shooting under par.”
Host and 10th ranked Auburn holds a ten shot lead over the field. North Carolina-Greensboro's Taylor Coalson , Santa Clara's Hadyen Shieh and Auburn's Micheal Johnson sit atop the players leaderboard.
The Maroon & White tee off Tuesday's third round at 7:45 a.m.
