MSU Finishes Tiger Invitational Tied for 15th
March 10, 2015 | Men's Golf
OPELIKA, Ala – Despite staring off the final round in tie for 12th, the Mississippi State men's golf team posted a scorecard of 304 to finish the three-day tournament with a total of 906 and tied for 15th.
“I know we are all frustrated that we are not performing better,” MSU coach Clay Homan said. “We have to get back to work and improve our scoring.”
Jackson Dick, the only Bulldog to post a sub-par round on day two, carded a five-over-77 for a total of 228 and tied for 50th.
Joining Dick in a tie for 50th was junior Tim Walker, who shot a final round 78, giving him a 228 for the tournament.
A two-time winner this year, Ben Wood carded a third round 75 to place in a tie for 55th with a stroke total of 229.
Along with Wood in a tie for 55th, freshman Taylor Grant shot a 78 for the final round ending the tournament with a total of 229.
Rounding out the MSU scorecard, Johnny Newnham shot the lowest Bulldog round of the day with a 74, ending the tournament with 230 strokes and a tie for 60th.
Competing as an individual, Taylor Bibbs improved five strokes on his second round total, shooting a third round 77 to end with 235 strokes and a tie for 80th.
“We are not saving enough shots around the greens to compete at a high level,” Homan said. “We are playing with very little confidence and until we get better inside of 125 yards, that will be the case.”
Host Auburn, led by the individual winner Michael Johnson, won the team tournament by 28 shots.
The Maroon and White return to the links on March 22 at the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Virginia.
