Complete Game By Laster Gives No. 20 MSU 5-2 Win Against EIU

Laster (3-0) allowed eight hits and two runs (both earned) while matching a season high with seven strikeouts and no walks. The Bulldogs have now recorded three quality starts in their last four games.
The Bulldogs completed their season-opening 23-game homestand with a 17-6 overall record.
MSU erased an early 1-0 deficit by scoring four times in the third inning.
After a strikeout, Cody Brown drew a walk, Brent Rooker reached as a hit batsman and Jacob Robson walked. Wes Rea cleared the bases with a three-run double to left center. Reid Humphreys followed that hit with an RBI-double to the outfield wall.
The Bulldogs increased the lead in the fifth inning when Robson walked, stole two bases and scored on a balk.
MSU finished with seven hits. Rea and Robson each had multiple hits.
Eastern Illinois (0-14) finished with eight hits and made the game's only error. Brant Valach was the squad's lone multiple hitter.
Christian Slazinik (0-3) took the loss, in relief of starter Ben Hughes.
MSU returns to conference play this weekend with its first road trip of the season to Kentucky. The Bulldogs and Wildcats play at 5:30 p.m. CT Friday, 1 p.m. CT Saturday and noon CT Sunday. All three games will be available on SEC Network +.
