MSU Claims Second Place in FSU Match-Up
February 15, 2015 | Women's Golf
Tallahassee, Fla. – Shooting its lowest round at the Florida State Match-Up, Mississippi State fired a 286 to finish its first spring event tied for second with a three-day total of 883.
Claiming the tournament crown was Furman, which won by seven strokes.
“Today's round was more satisfying for us.” MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “The first two rounds were rusty. The three-month gap in competition really showed.”
The Bulldogs, who finished second with Virginia and one stroke ahead of top-ranked South Carolina, entered Sunday's final round in sixth place, but Ally McDonald and Jessica Peng propelled them up the leaderboard.
Both finished in the Top 5.
McDonald had her lowest outing of the tournament as she was able to card a 70 to finish fourth with her 216.
Peng finished in a tie for fifth, as she also shot a 70 to finish one back of McDonald at 217.
Jumping a spot to tie for 33rd, Rica Tse improved her game with a 73. The senior fired a 227 for the entire event.
After her phenomenal performance in the second round, Ji Eun Baik ended the event at 228 after firing a 78 on Sunday.
Shaving 7 strokes off of her second round tally, Izel Pieters had a career day as she shot her tournament low 73 (+1). Pieters' overall mark was 231.
MSU now has a quick turn-around as it will head to New Orleans to compete in the All State Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate at Feb.22-24.
