Bulldogs Finish First Round In Top 5
March 27, 2015 | Women's Golf
Baton Rouge, La. – After a two-week hiatus, the Mississippi State women's golf team returned to action on Friday at the LSU Tiger Classic and finds itself in fifth place after firing a 306.
Host team LSU is atop the leaderboard 297, while MSU trails second place TCU by only six strokes.
“We battled through windy conditions and a tough course today,” coach Ginger-Brown-Lemm said. “We hung in there and have put ourselves in a good place to finish the next few days strong if we keep working hard.”
Paving the way for the Bulldogs was sophomore Jessica Peng. Shooting under par on the back nine, she finished tied for 4th at 73 (+1).
Joining Peng in the Top 20 was senior Rica Tse. In her final regular-season tournament as a Bulldog, Tse fired 2 over par on the front and back nine. She ended the day with a 76, tied for 18th.
Starting the day off in unusual fashion, senior All-American Ally McDonald finished strong shooting only 1 over par on the final nine holes, ending the day tied for 31st with a 78.
Ji Eun Baik and Blaise Carabello both tied for 35th Friday, each shooting a 79.
Sophomore Izel Pieters participated in today's round as an individual. The South African native ended the day tied for 35th, joining Baik and Carabello with a 79 scorecard.
