November 05, 2015 | Men's Tennis
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Continuing his stellar fall run at futures events, junior Rishab Agarwal knocked off Illinois' Jared Hiltzik in a three-set thriller at the Player's Choice 10K Futures to move on to Friday's quarterfinal.
After dropping the opening set 4-6, Agarwal stormed back to claim the next two sets, 6-4, 7-6(1) against the 12th-ranked collegiate player in the country. Agarwal faces David Biosca Girvent of Spain in Friday's quarterfinal.
Thursday's win gave Agarwal two victories against ATP ranked opponents at the Player's Choice, with his first coming against Leandro Portmann (885) on Tuesday and his latest against Hiltzik (581).
Agarwal reached the semifinal of the Houston 15K Futures back in October, before falling to runner-up Lucas Gomez of Mexico.
The Bulldogs will continue their time in futures events after wrapping up in Birmingham, traveling to Niceville, Fla., on Nov. 6-13. MSU will send freshmen Lucas Sanchez and Niclas Braun.
