October 09, 2015 | Women's Tennis
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – After winning three straight matches to advance to the main draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, Mississippi State's Jasmine Lee dropped her opening-round match there on Thursday and will open consolation play Friday.
State's 23rd-ranked junior faced Florida's second-ranked and No.1 seeded Brooke Austin Thursday. After dropping the first set 6-2, Lee did everything she could to try and force the match to three sets, but dropped a tight 10-8 tiebreaker in the second set and the match 6-2, 7-6(8).
Lee's first opponent for consolation play Friday will be Southern California's 10th-ranked Giuliana Olmos. The two will face off at 3:45 p.m. CT.
“Jasmine played a really competitive match today,” assistant coach Sachin Kirtane said. “In the second set, she was close to winning several set points, but could not finish through. The pace slowed down in the tiebreaker, but unfortunately she just couldn't win the set. We look forward to coming out and playing again tomorrow.”
