October 08, 2015 | Women's Tennis
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – With qualifying play at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championship completed, Mississippi State's Jasmine Lee has advanced to the main draw after posting another straight-set win Wednesday.
As the No. 1 seed in qualifying, Lee defeated Duke's Ellyse Hamlin 6-4, 6-1 to become one of eight players to move on to the 32-player main draw, which begins Thursday at the Riviera Tennis Club.
Lee's first-round opponent Thursday in the main draw will be Florida's top-seeded and second-ranked Brooke Austin at 1:45 p.m. CT. The players have met once – Austin taking a 6-3, 6-3 win at the No. 1 position in the teams' dual match in Starkville this past March.
Since making her debut as a collegian this past January, the 23rd-ranked Lee has now qualified for the singles main draw in all three of the major collegiate tournaments that have been played (NCAA Championship, Oracle/ITA Masters, Riviera/ITA All-American).
“Jasmine had a great win today,” said assistant coach Sachin Kirtane. “She did an unbelievable job on the court against a tough competitor. We are excited about her moving on to the main draw and hope she can keep progressing.”
