
Two Diamond Dawgs Advance To MLB Playoffs

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Former Mississippi State baseball players Mitch Moreland and Chris Maloney will appear in the 2015 Major League Baseball playoffs.
Moreland led the Texas Rangers to the American League West championship on the final day of the regular season and will be making his fourth career appearance in the playoffs (2010-12). Highlighted by a 5-for-15 performance in the 2010 World Series against San Francisco, the Amory, Mississippi, native is 19-for-76 (.250) in 25 career playoff games. The former MSU first baseman and left-handed pitcher is looking to play in the World Series for the third time since 2010.
Before being drafted by the Rangers in the 17th round of the 2007 MLB Draft, Moreland hit .332 in 129 games for the Maroon and White from 2005-07. In his final year in Starkville, he led the Bulldogs to their eighth NCAA College World Series, hitting .343 in 60 games played.
Moreland and the Rangers play at Toronto Thursday at 2:30 p.m. CT in game one of the American League Division Series. The game will be broadcast live on FS1.
Since 2012, Maloney has served as the first base coach for the St. Louis Cardinals after playing for MSU in 1982 and 1983.Maloney and the Cardinals host the winner of Wednesday's Pittsburgh and Chicago Wild Card game Friday at 5:30 p.m. CT in game one of the National League Division Series. The game will be broadcast live on TBS.
