MSU?s Lee Goes 2-0 On Day One Of Riviera/ITA Qualifying
October 07, 2015 | Women's Tennis
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – After day one of qualifying play at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championship, Mississippi State's Jasmine Lee is one win away from making the main draw after posting two straight-set wins Tuesday.
The 23rd-ranked Bulldog junior started the day by defeating North Carolina's 62nd-ranked Whitney Kay in 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the second round. There, Lee faced Oklahoma State's No. 70 Vladica Babic, once again winning in straight sets, this time 6-2, 6-1.
Lee will match up with Duke's Ellyse Hamlin, who upset Arizona's 43rd-ranked Lauren Marker 6-4, 6-4 Tuesday to advance, in the round 16 Wednesday at 1:45 p.m. CT. The winner of that contest will move on to the main draw of the tournament, which begins Thursday.
“Jasmine had a great day today,” said assistant coach Sachin Kirtane. “In the first match, she was able to hang in and win the big points, but could not find a steady rhythm. However, in the second round match, she was able to come out and quickly find her rhythm to jump out to an early lead. For the final round, we look to repeat today's performance.”
