Bulldogs Drop Pair Of Matches At ITA All-American Championships
October 06, 2015 | Men's Tennis
TULSA, Okla. – Junior Rishab Agarwal and freshman Niclas Braun turned in valiant efforts at the ITA All-American Championships, but ultimately fell on Monday in singles competition.
Agarwal dropped his qualifying-round match, 6-3, 6-2, to Strong Kirchheimer of Northwestern. Despite the loss, the junior remains in competition in Tulsa and will compete in Tuesday's consolation bracket.
After going 3-0 over the weekend, Braun pushed Michael Riechmann of Texas to three sets but fell, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
“Both of our guys played excellent competition today, so it was good for us to test their abilities,” MSU head coach Matt Roberts said. “Niclas played a guy who had a different style than what he has faced before, so it was good for him to see that and adapt. Rishab had a tough opponent to open up qualifying play, but despite the loss, he has a chance to bounce back tomorrow in consolation.”
Agarwal and Braun will team up to face Sean Donohue and Courtney Lock of Louisville in the qualifying doubles round of the All-Americans.
