I want to start this week's letter by thanking every single person involved for the incredible gameday experience we had this weekend against Kentucky. From the start of the day tailgating to the end of the game when we sang the Alma Mater with the team, it was an impressive atmosphere, capped by seeing our Bulldogs become bowl eligible for the sixth-straight year.
We've received several notes complimenting Mississippi State and Davis Wade Stadium for being such a great place to watch a college football game and those compliments should be directed to all of you. Our fans, gameday staff, team and all others involved clearly put on their best show this weekend and it did not go unnoticed.
Over the last few years, we've begun to develop a reputation for such things. Just as I'm excited for those individual days and nights across all sports where State fans show their dedication, I'm even more proud of the consistency. We've set attendance records at roughly a half dozen of our sports the last few years and the rest of the SEC and the country have taken note as we've packed the stands on a weekly basis across the board. Thank you and let's keep it up the rest of this year!
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CLOSE TO TIPOFF
As we close in on the beginning of basketball season here in Starkville, I want to share a few notes and reminders. First, we still have a limited number of men's basketball season tickets available. Those are currently on sale to all fans, so make sure to take advantage soon if you haven't yet.
With every season ticket sold for women's basketball, we set another record as we are now just shy of 2,500 secured. Coach Schaefer's team was picked third in the SEC going into the season and has been voted in the preseason Top-10. We're looking forward to another great season under the reigning SEC Coach of the Year and I hope you will continue to join us in supporting the Bulldogs.
One way you can do so is to be a part of our video shoot this weekend. On Sunday at 5 p.m. in McKee Park in Starkville, our video and marketing teams will be shooting the women's basketball intro video to be used in The Hump this year, and they are asking for you to come out and join.
Also, congratulations to Victoria Vivians and Malik Newman for both being voted preseason All-SEC last week.
SOCCER SENIOR NIGHT THURSDAY
On Thursday at 7 p.m., Coach Gordon and the soccer team host one of the biggest matches we've had in years when Auburn comes to town. With a win, our Bulldogs could put themselves in position to make the SEC Tournament, a great accomplishment which would be indicative of the job Coach Gordon and his staff have done rebuilding our program.
Thursday is also senior night for our only senior this year, Shelby Jordan. Shelby has been a great representative for MSU both on the field and off, and her dedication to helping build the MSU program is deserving of recognition. We thank you for everything you've given, Shelby, and we look forward to celebrating your career Thursday night.
WRAPPING UP THIS WEEK'S EMAIL IN MAROON AND WHITE
- Congrats to Dak Prescott, who was named Player of the Week by every organization known to man after his six TD performance against Kentucky.
- We plan to release the full 2016 softball schedule soon, but I've been given word that our Bulldogs will open up their new stadium on Thursday, February 11, against Georgia Southern as part of that weekend's Bulldog Classic.
- Speaking of schedule releases, I understand the 2016 SEC football schedule will be announced at some point this week. SPOILER ALERT: MSU's 2016 open date is Oct. 1 … Plan your weddings accordingly!
- On Thursday, our women's basketball team will have an open scrimmage at 6 p.m., if you'd like to stop by before heading to soccer. Admission to the Maroon-White scrimmage is free.
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals –
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this Update.
Hail State!
