Bulldogs End Fall Season Top 10 in Alamo Invitational
October 27, 2015 | Women's Golf
San Antonio - Concluding the final tournament of the fall season, the Mississippi State women¹s golf team saved the best round for last, shooting a 6-over-par 294 for a three-day total of 889 at the Alamo Invitational.
The Bulldogs finished seventh, with SEC foe Florida placing first.
MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm wanted to see her young team progress throughout the season and get better every day. She felt her young team did just that.
“This week was very important to our team development. We came together much better than events in the past. We had solid leadership out on the course,” Brown-Lemm said. “We have always been a great finishing team, and that was one area we struggled with here in San Antonio.”
For the second day in a row, Ji Eun Baik paced the team with her 73. Baik was able to fire a team-high five birdies, as well as ending the front nine holes 1-under.
Despite her freshman status, Bianca Theron has quickly evolved into one of Mississippi State¹s top players. Her 76 Tuesday gave her a 224 for the tournament.
Jessica Peng improved her scorecard by one stroke from Monday with a 74.
After a rough first round, Izel Pieters made a point to be resilient and keep improving. In the second round she took eight shots off her first-round tally. Pieters finished Tuesday¹s round with the only under-par round on the team with a 71.
Logan Chaney ended the week with a 227 total.
The Bulldogs look to a good break to work on their game using the new state of the art facilities before the next event.
“We will work on very hard on fundamentals of putting and pitching in this coming up offseason ,as well as focus on our swings with the new hitting bays,” Brown-Lemm said. “This will mark the first time that we will truly get significant improvement by using our facilities so the weather does not limit us. Between the new technology of the Sam PuttLab, and the Trackman for the swing improvement, the spring looks exciting.
The Bulldogs will be back in action Feb. 7-9 in Orlando, Fla. competing in the UCF Challenge.
