Men?s Tennis Wins Doubles Consolation Brackets At SEC Invite

AUBURN, Ala. – On the final day of action at the Southeastern Conference Invitational, Mississippi State proved dominant by winning two brackets in doubles consolation play.
Freshman Niclas Braun and junior Vaughn Hunter claimed the first consolation of the day after grabbing a win against Ole Miss' Fillip Kraljevic and Fabian Fallert, 8-4. The paring of junior Rishab Agarwal and freshman Trevor Foshey would claim the next doubles victory, as the tandem beat Viboosh Chandrasekar and Max Sivalls of Auburn, 8-2.
Braun and Hunter claimed the A Draw doubles consolation, while Agarwal and Foshey took the B Draw of the doubles consolation.
“We came out and played with great energy today and came up with two quality wins,” MSU coach Matt Roberts said. “ Singles didn't go our way today, but the weekend as a whole was a big step forward for everyone on our team.”
Agarwal landed in the A Draw singles final after an impressive run, but lost a hard-fought match with Florida's Elliott Orkin, 6-0, 7-5 in the championship match.
Braun and freshman Lucas Sanchez also played in singles finals on Sunday, competing in the A and B Draw consolation brackets, respectively. Braun lost to Jose Salazar in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, while Sanchez fell to Tennessee's Jess Jones, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
Looking past the SEC Invite, the Bulldogs will have upcoming futures events in Birmingham, Ala., (Oct. 30-Nov.6) and Niceville, Fla., (Nov. 6-13) left on tap for the fall campaign.
