Bulldogs Fight and End First Round Strong
October 25, 2015 | Women's Golf
San Antonio, Texas – Battling through a rain-dominated first round Sunday at the Alamo Invitational, the Mississippi State women's golf team stayed strong and ended the day in sixth place, shooting an 11-over-par 299.
Falling all the way to 10th place at one point in the day, the Bulldogs came roaring back in their final nine holes, recording four more birdies as a team than on the first nine holes. The Bulldogs also had the third highest percentage of par shots overall.
“Our team was very resilient today, battling through windy conditions and not playing a practice round due to rain. They relied on their training throughout the week," coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. "We had several big numbers but fought hard for some birdies towards the end. "
Back in the lineup after missing the last tournament, senior Logan Chaney paved the way for the stellar round, firing a 73 and finishing tied for 12th place. She also led the team with five birdies.
Junior Ji Eun Baik joined Chaney in the Top 20 after shooting a 74, which was good enough for a tied for 19th place spot.
Bianca Theron, the freshman making waves this season, shot a 75 to finish tied for 22nd.
Juniors Jessica Peng and Izel Pieters fired a 77 and 82, respectively.
MSU is back in action Monday for the second round of the Alamo Invitational.
