Men?s Tennis Wraps Up Day One At SEC Invite

AUBURN, Ala. – Day one of the Southeastern Conference Invitational concluded on Friday, with the Mississippi State men's tennis team turning in a stellar performance at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
The highlight of day one came from junior Vaughn Hunter, who knocked off sixth-seeded Rhys Johnson of Vanderbilt, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, in the round of 32. Hunter fell in a tough three-set match the following round against McClain Kessler of Florida, 7-6, 1-6, 6-3, to conclude his time on the singles court.
Junior Rishab Agarwal went 2-0, defeating Jose Salazar of Arkansas, 6-4, 7-6 (2), before downing Ole Miss' Filip Kroljevic, 6-7, 6-3, 6-1. Agarwal will face Vanderbilt's Cameron Klinger in the quarterfinal round on Saturday.
Freshman Trevor Foshey split his two singles matches on Friday, defeating Ryan Smith of Vanderbilt, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, before falling to Tennessee's Igor Smelyanski, 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles action, the tandem of Agarwal and Foshey defeated Tennessee's Jess Jones and Sunay Bhat, 8-2. The Bulldog pair will face top-seeded Danny Valent and Klinger of Vanderbilt in Saturday's quarterfinal round.
Rounding out doubles play, the pairing of Niclas Braun and Hunter fell to Conner Huertas and Joseph Van Dooren of Auburn, 8-4.
Looking past the SEC Invite, the Bulldogs will have upcoming futures events in Birmingham, Ala., (Oct. 30-Nov.6) and Niceville, Fla., (Nov. 6-13) left on tap for the fall campaign.
